CARNEY AND GALLMAN PACE BSU AT LIBERTY TWILIGHT QUALIFIER

COMPLETE RESULTS

(LYNCHBURG, Va.)  Sophomores Lakesha Carney (Hampton, VA, Denbigh) and Jamin Gallman (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) led the Bowie State contigency at the Liberty University Twilight Qualifier.  Carney placed first in the women's discus with a throw of 43.06m (141-03).  Carney is the first Bowie State student-athlete to become a National Qualifier in the Discus.  Gallman ran a personal record of 1:54.23 in the men's 800 Meter Run, placing him seventh overall in the event and was also a member of the 4x400 Meter Relay team that placed second overall with a time of 3:16.79.

In addition to Carney's success on the women's side, Elaine Rhoades (Norfolk, VA, Booker T. Washington) placed second in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:03.59) and Kayla Campbell (Hampton, Va., Bethel) also had a second place finish in the Shot Put (12.61m).  Alyce Harrell finished third in the Discus (39.01m (128-00), Carney was fourth in the Shot Put (11.77m) and Brandy Peat (Newport News, VA, Denbigh) placed fifth in the Shot Put (11.59m).  Bowie State came in fourth in the 4x100 Meter Relay, clocking in with a time of 49.41.

On the men's side, sophomores Devin Richards (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) (Long Jump - 6.36m), junior Dion Rodriguez (Trinida Tobago, Eldorado Senior) (100 Meter Dash - 10.77) and senior David Rustin (Laurel, MD, Laural) (400 Meter Dash - 49.14) returned to Bowie State with seventh place finishes respectively.  The Bulldogs took first in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 41.79.

Members of the Bowie State track & field teams will close out the 2009 Outdoor season at the NCAA Championships - May 21 - 23 at San Angelo (Texas) State University.
