(BOWIE, Md.) Lincoln University of Pennsylvania senior Dante Blanton-Holcombe (Baltimore, Md.) torched the Bowie State University A.C. Jordan Arena nets for a game-high 25 points to lead the starving Lions to a shocking 97-91 victory over the Bulldogs. Lincoln (Pa.) came into to the game with a 2-21 overall record and snapped Bowie State’s six-game win streak (1998-2009) over the Lions.

Bowie State, playing without the services of All-CIAA senior forward Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) and senior point guard Corey Stevens (Glenarden, MD, Good Counsel), could never really shake a very physical Lincoln (Pa.) team. The first period featured six ties and seven lead changes with Lincoln (Pa.) holding a narrow 47-46 advantage at halftime.

The Lincoln (Pa.) Lions hit 18-of-33 first half field goals (55 percent) while Bowie State’s Bulldogs hit 16-of-38 field goals (42 percent).

Bowie State’s largest lead of the night came at the 11:07 mark of the second frame on a 3-point bucket by junior Eric Vann (Clinton, MD, Gwynn Park, Prince George's C.C.), putting the Bulldogs in front 69-61. Lincoln (Pa.) went on a 9-1 run to tie the game at 70-70 with sophomore Darren Clark (Boston, Mass.) capping off the run with a layup.

Lincoln (3-21) pulled with one at 82-81on steal by Blanton-Holcombe and ensuing layup by senior Ledaye Johnson (Wilmington, Del.) despite being fouled. Although Johnson missed the free throw and a chance to tie, senior Damian Hyman (Bronx, NY) came up with a critical offensive rebound with 4:05 left to play. Clark attacked the basket for two of his 24 total points to give Lincoln’s Lions the lead at 83-82, which it would not relinquish.

Bowie State was outscored 14-9 over the final four minutes, missing key free throws along the way. Bowie State went 8-of-12 from the free throw line in the first half, but made just 9-of-20 in the final half.

The BSU Bulldogs were led by Vann with career-highs of 23 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore, All-CIAA candidate and conference shot block leader, Travis Hyman (Annapolis, MD, Old Mill, Prince George's C.C.) recorded his second double-double of the season, tying his season-high of 15 points to go along with a career and game-high 13 rebounds. Senior Corey Camphor (Upper Marlboro, MD, Bridgton) had a career-game as well, scoring 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Camphor also matched his career-high of four 3-pointers. Senior Armond Hill (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook, Montgomery - Rockville C.C.) tallied a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Other double figure scorers for Lincoln (Pa.) include Clark (24 points) and Johnson along with Hyman with 13 points each.

Bowie State (14-9) returns to the court – Wednesday (February 17), playing host to the Tigers of Saint Paul’s College. Game time in BSU’s A.C. Jordan Arena is 7:30 p.m.
