INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee has released this week’s Division II women’s basketball regional rankings. The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs dropped from sixth to eighth place in the Atlantic Region after falling in the CIAA Championship game.  CIAA Champion Fayetteville State University, debuts in the poll for the first time this season, jumping in at sixth place.

Conference foe Virginia State University dropped two spots to seventh after being upset in the conference tournament semifinals to Fayetteville State.

The top eight teams in each of the eight regions receive bids to NCAA Division II Playoffs. Selections will be Sunday, March 7. The Division II Women’s Basketball Championship selection show will be webcast on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. Eastern time, expect for the West region, which will be announced Monday, March 8. 

Gannon University retains the #1 spot while California (Pa.) remains at #2.

Millersville University stayed at #3, but the Marauders lost in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament earlier this week.

Seton Hill, which is ranked fifth, also lost in the first round of the West Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament.

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) Fayetteville State held Bowie State to 17-of-70 shooting (24 percent) and outrebound the Lady Bulldogs 60 to 41, to claim the CIAA Women's Championship by the score of 66-50. Bowie State senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) led all players with a game-high 24 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Other BSU players joining Lee on the All-Tournament Team include junior Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) and sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy).

Two down and one victory to go for Bowie State University, as the Lady Bulldogs advance to the CIAA championship game with a 69-51 victory over the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. Junior Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) and senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll)scored a game-high 18 points apiece and sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) added another 15 points to pace Bowie State.

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)  Sophomore Brittney Barber (Clinton, MD, Surrattsville) scored her only field goal of the game 23 seconds left in the game to lift Bowie State University to a thrilling 44-43 quarterfinal victory over Shaw University.  Senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) scored a game-high 16 points and sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) added nine points and nine rebounds.  With the win, BSU's Lady Bulldogs advance to Friday's (2/26) 3 p.m. semifinal against Elizabeth City State University.

(BOWIE, Md.) It was Senior Day for the Lady Bulldogs and Bowie State ended the regular season with a 61-56 divisional win over the Virginia Union Lady Panthers. Sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) led Bowie State with a career-high 17 points. Senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) and junior Brittne Gowdy (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) added 16 and 10 points respectively for BSU’s Lady Bulldogs. Virginia Union (7-18, 2-18 CIAA, 1-7 East) was led by Tonaye Smith with a game-high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Bowie State goes into next weeks CIAA Tournament with a record of 16-7, 15-5 CIAA and 5-3 East.
