GAME ONE BOX SCORE     GAME TWO BOX SCORE

(BOWIE, Md.) Shepherd (W.Va.) University swept Bowie State 11-0 and 9-3 to spoil the Lady Bulldogs’ home opener.

In game one, the Rams put six runs on the board in the top of the second inning and cruised to an 11-0 victory of the Lady Bulldogs. Shepherd pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH) held Bowie State to three hits and struck out four and recorded her fourth win of the season.

Five Shepherd players had two hits each and the Rams pounded out 13 total hits. Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, Va.) paced Shepherd with a game-high four RBI in the opener.

Of Bowie State’s two hits in the opener, senior Faline Brown (Inwood, W.Va., Hagerstown C.C.) and freshman Kristen Lee (Germantown, MD, Northwest) were responsible for those. Errors really hurt BSU as the Lady Bulldogs committed four in game one.

Bowie State (2-2) began game two putting three runs on the board on the bottom of the first inning. However, Shepherd responded with four runs in the top half of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back. Allie Brambeck (Eldersburg, Md.) added two more runs to the visitor’s side of the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, belting a shot over the center field fence. The Rams scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and closed out the Lady Bulldogs 9-3.

Shepherd (6-0) was led by Brambeck in game two with three hits and Kris Durham (Queen Anne, Md.) added two hits.

Six Bowie State players had one hit in game two with freshman Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) accounting for two RBI. The error bug bit the Lady Bulldogs again as BSU recorded four in game two as well.

Bowie State’s next scheduled game is Tuesday (March 9) at Division I Coppin State University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at a site to be determined.
