(BOWIE, Md.) The Bowie State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics concluded its 2009-2010 athletic year this evening with its 10th Annual Awards Banquet at Florian Hall. Athletic as well as academic awards were presented to members of each of Bowie State's athletic teams.
The evening began with a message from Marie Brown. Brown is no stranger to Bowie State having received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media with a concentration in Broadcast Technology in 1989. The resident of Calvert County (Md.), also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (2008) in Biblical Studies from the North Carolina College of Theology as well as a Master of Theology (2009) from the same school. Brown is the oldest of five children and currently is a professor in the Bowie State University Communications Department.
Highlights of the evening included the presentation of 68 student-athletes with a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2009 Fall Semester, the 2009-2010 Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year (
Maya Newman (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) and
Jamin Gallman (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic)) and Female and Male Athletes of the Year (
Shalai Tabor (Waldorf, MD, Delaware State Univ.) and
