Kassondra Greis (Mount Airy, MD, Linganore) led the BSU Lady Bulldogs to a three-set sweep of St. Paul's College. Bowie State won by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-11, snapping a four match losing streak and winning their conference opener.
Set one was pretty tight but Bowie State completed dominated in set two. St. Paul's (0-4, 0-2 CIAA and 0-1 North) made set three interesting early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Bowie State closed to within four at 8-4 after a service ace by sophomore
Symone' Jordan (Accokeek, MD, Gwynn Park). From there, Bowie State went on a 10-0 run which was capped off by a Greiss kill and the Lady Bulldogs never looked back.
The Bowie State defense held St. Paul's to a negative attack percentage (-.033) with freshman
Kyerra Martin (Capital Heights, MD, Forestville Military Academy) accounting for three block assists. Heath and freshman
Tiffany White (Towson, MD, Digital Harbor) also played tough at the net, tallying a pair of block assists each. Freshmen
Brelyn Finley (District Heights, MD, Charles H. Flowers) recorded one block and one block assists to aid the Lady Bulldogs.
Heath paced Bowie State with 12 kills and sophomore
Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) added nine kills in the victory.
Tekesha Rhodes was St. Paul's primary point producer, knocking down a team-high seven kills. Jennifer Carter added two kills to go along with two service aces, nine digs and one solo block.
Bowie State (1-4, 1-0 CIAA and 1-0 North) welcome Cheyney University of Pennsylvania to A.C. Jordan Arena - Wednesday (9/8) for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
