(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State won the second match of a rare CIAA volleyball doubleheader, defeating the St. Paul's College Lady Tigers 26-24, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-19. The win, Bowie State's first back-to-back victory of the year, improved the Lady Bulldogs to 5-19 overall, 5-9 in the CIAA and 3-4 in the East.
Juniors Ashley Robinson (Cleveland, OH, Shaker Heights) and JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson) led the attack, knocking down a game-high nine kills each for BSU's Lady Bulldogs. Senior Itumeleng Shadreck (Botswana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) and freshman Jasmine Nixon (Middletown, NY, Middletown) contributed eight and seven kills respectively. Heath led Bowie State with six service aces and senior Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) paced the Lady Bulldogs with a team-high 13 digs on senior night.
Three Lady Bulldogs seniors were honored between match one and two, as Shadreck, Garner and Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD, Prince George's C.C.) were presented, plaques, balloons and flowers.
St. Paul's (1-19, 0-16 and 0-8) was led by Tekesha Rhodes with six kills, 10 digs, one service ace, one block solo and one block assist. Tiffany Ball and Charnee Alston were credited with five kills each and Christa Mosley added four kills for the Lady Tigers.
Bowie State will take a week off from competition before returning to the court with a divisional road game at Virginia State - Wednesday, October 21st at 6 p.m.
