DAY TWO RESULTS
(PETERSBURG, Va.) Day two of the CIAA Tennis Championships proved to be better for the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs. BSU went a perfect 6-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles through the quarterfinal round.
In Singles action, senior Danielle Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) defeated Brittany Shim of Saint Augustine's College 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 1. Sophomore Kyara Lombre (Mitchellville, MD, C.H. Flowers) beat Kira Edgehill of Saint Augustine's by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 2 and senior Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD) defeated Tomia Scott of Saint Paul's College 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 3. Sophomore Chelyce Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) continued Bowie State's winning ways, rolling to an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 over Tiffany Brown of Elizabeth City State University. Senior Jessica Bond (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy / Emerson Preparatory School) lost game one of her No. 5 match, but rebounded to defeat Elizabeth City State's Lauren Lee 2-6, 6-0 and 6-2. Sophomore Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) beat Tyra Breaux of Johnson C. Smith University 6-2, 4-6 and 11-9 to take No. 6.
Chelyce Fields and Mahon defeated Edgehill and Shim of Saint Augustine's 8-4 to begin No.1 Doubles play. However, Fields and Mahon lost 8-1 in the semifinals to Lolia Kienka and Fernanda Silva of Shaw University. Virginia State's Keisha Holmes and Imani James defeated BSU's Danielle Fields and Mahon 8-1 in the 3rd place match. Chelyce Fields and Lombre defeated JCSU's Brittany Laws and Rolanda Sue 8-4 at No. 2 Doubles. Fields and Lombre duo dropped an 8-4 decision in the semifinals to Xania Steele and Evan Okafor of Shaw but regrouped to beat Brown and Krystan Fleming of Elizabeth City State 8-3 to place third at No. 2 Doubles. Johnson C. Smith's Breaux and Melissa Shular defeated Bond and McNair 8-6 in No. 3 Doubles quaterfinal play. The Lady Bulldogs' Bond and McNair ended the day on an up note, winning their No. 3 Consolation match 8-5 over Peggy Parks and Alicia Willie of Saint Paul's College and defeated Kiara Henderson and Jasmine Rivera of Shaw to finish fifth overall at No. 3 Doubles.
