(RICHMOND, VA) Bowie State University's Lady Bulldogs rolled to a three game sweep over Virginia Union University, beating the Lady Panthers 30-23, 30-21 and 30-28. The victory also gives BSU a season sweep over VUU and improves Bowie State to 10-12 overall, 8-4 in the CIAA and 5-2 in the Eastern division.
The trio of freshmen Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD) and juniors Tiffany Toney (Abilene, TX) and Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD) led BSU's Lady Bulldogs. Sloat put away a game-high 11 kills while Toney and Conner Rogers added another 10 kills apiece. Toney also led Bowie State with a game-high seven service aces and 13 digs.
Lashira Williams and Alaura Jones were Virginia Union's top performers, accounting for nine and seven kills respectively. Other top players for the Lady Panthers include Shayla Bryson (10 digs) and Stephanie Bell (four service aces).
Bowie State will close out CIAA play - Wednesday, October 24th with a 5 p.m. home finale against division rival Virginia State University. Virginia Union (0-15, 0-11 and 0-6) returns to action - Thursday (10/18) on the road at division leading Elizabeth City State at 6 p.m.
