(HAMPTON, VA ) Four members of the Bowie State University football team have been named to the 2007 CIAA All-Rookie Team as voted by the conference Sports Information Directors.
Freshman Rodney Webb (Baltimore, MD – Milford Mill Academy) was selected on offense while fellow freshmen Kyle Jackson (Baltimore, MD – Edmondson HS), Alexander Payton (Rockville, MD – Richard Montgomery HS) and Ricardo Silva (Randallstown, MD – Baltimore Polytechnic HS) were picked to represent the Bulldogs defense.
Webb played in all 10 games this season (starting five), ranked second on the team in rushing (621 yards on 139 carries) and 7th in CIAA rushing with his best game coming against Livingstone (121 yards). Silva led Bowie State in total tackles (69) and tied for 14th in CIAA tackles, starting all 10 games and tallied his best game (13 tackles) at Newberry. Jackson was second on the team in total tackles (64), tied for 21st in CIAA tackles and played his best game against Virginia Union, racking up 11 tackles. Payton started in nine of ten games during the 2007 season, led BSU's Bulldogs with eight sacks, accounted for 33 total tackles and tied for second in CIAA Sacks. Payton's best outing was at Fayetteville State, tying for a team-high seven tackles and also had a game-high three sacks.
All members of the 2007 CIAA All-Rookie team will be recognized at the Football Championship Banquet on Thursday, November 8th in Charlotte (NC).
