(HAMPTON, VA) The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is proud to announce this season's finest, the All-CIAA Football Team and Player of the Year. Bowie State University placed five players on the team which included Isaac Redman (First Team Offense), Dwayne Frost, Jerrick Jeffreys and James Hardaway (Second Team Offense) and Alexander Payton (Second Team Defense).
Despite playing only seven of 10 games during the Bulldogs season, Redman rushed for a team-high 825 yards, scored 13 touchdowns and set a new BSU Single Game Rushing Record of 218 versus Livingstone. Redman, Bowie State's All-Time Career Rushing Yards Leader (2,762 yards), also set a new BSU Career Rushing Attempts Record with 505 during the 2007 campaign.
Payton led the Bulldogs in sacks (8.0 for 66 yards), ranked second in CIAA sacks and paced Bowie State with 10 ½ sacks this past season.
Offensive Player of the Year, junior, quarterback Lamar Little hails from Virginia Union University and is a native of Candor, NC. Little ranks at the top of the conference in passing average per game (177.3), first in pass efficiency with a rating of 145.7 and also leads the CIAA in total offense with 224.0 yds per game. Little, has scored 8 rushing touchdowns for a total of 48 points for the VUU Panthers.
Defensive Player of the Year, Louis Ellis of Jackson, MS, is a junior, defensive lineman for the Shaw University Bears. This season Lewis ranks third in the nation in tackles for loss- per game, 22-101 (2.4 avg.) and has earned 8 sacks for 57 yards.
De'Audra Dix of Johnson C. Smith University has been honored at the Special Teams Player of the Year. Dix, a senior, sports management major from Merritt Island, FL leads the conference in kick return average (31.3, long 85) and ranks 5th in the nation in the same category. Dix's longest kick return is for 85yds. versus Charleston Southern on Sept. 15.
