FINAL STATS
(WASHINGTON, DC) The 2007-2008 edition of the Bowie State University Bulldogs made their public debut at the Verizon Center against St. Mary's College and beat the Seahawks 76-66 in exhibition action.
Senior Jason Ingram led Bowie State with 19 points and fellow seniors David Paris and Joshua Johnson netted 12 and 10 points respectively. Ingran shared high rebound honors with junior Curtis Massey with each pulling down six rebounds. Bowie State hit 55.4% of their shots from the floor (31 of 56) but struggled at the charity stripe, converting only 7 of 19 (37.8%). Turnovers were abundant in the exhibition as well with BSU accounting for 26 and St. Mary's was charged with 30.
The St. Mary's Seahawks were led by Calvin Wise with 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Mike Smelkinson added another 12 points. The Seahawks shot poorly from the floor, making just 23 of 62 (37.1%).
St. Mary's will open their season - Friday, November 16th at the Eastern Connecticut State Tournament. Bowie State will begin the season, hosting the Bulldogs Classic, Friday (11/16) and Saturday (11/17) and will face Cheyney in the opening round at 7:30 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
