BULLDOGS WIN 65-57 OVER EDINBORO

BOX SCORE

(ERIE, PA) Sophomore Christian Jackson and senior Jason Ingram scored 13 points apiece to help guide Bowie State University to a 65-57 victory over Edinboro (PA) University in the opening game of the 34th Annual Perreco Cup hosted by Gannon University. Meeting for only the second time in the history of both schools, Edinboro (6-4) also lost to Bowie State in the semifinals of the 2002 Porreco Cup.

The Edinoro Fighting Scots, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division, led by six points (14-8) with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half. Bowie State stormed back with a 16-0 run to take a 24-14 lead, a lead they would never relinquish, by the 7:14 mark. During that stretch, BSU sophomore Corey Camphor came off the bench to hit three huge 3-pointers to spark the Bulldogs. Bowie State rode the momentum into halftime and held a 33-22 advantage at the break.

Jackson scored Bowie State's first points of the second half and senior Carlos Williams added to free throws before Edinboro's Devon Knight stopped the mini Bulldogs run. Edinboro trailed by double-digits most of the second half but did manage to cut the deficit to 54-48 with 7:11 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for Edinboro, Bowie State's Jackson knocked down a triple followed by a layup by senior David Paris (11 points), pushed the BSU lead back up to ten (61-51) with 4:17 left to play on the Hammermill Center scoreboard. Williams (8 points) scored the Bulldogs' final four points and finished the game with a game-high five assists.

Gilmore Cummings led Edinboro with 17 points and tied for team-high rebound honors with seven and Knight added 16 points.

Senior Joshua Johnson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for Bowie State and Paris added another six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Bowie State (6-4) will take on host Gannon University, a 74-67 winner over Seton Hill, tomorrow (12/30) evening at 8 p.m. for the Porreco Cup Championship.
