(ERIE, PA) Gannon University captured its 18th Porreco Cup Championship in the 34-year history of the tournament, beating Bowie State University 81-68.
The Gannon Golden Knights went on a 15-0 run beginning at the 15:32 mark of the first half and opened a comfortable 23-7 lead. BSU senior
Orlando Wright stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer at the midway point of the opening period. Bowie State's first half field goal shooting percentage was almost as cold as the air temperature outside the Hammermill Center, as the Bulldogs made 10-of-33 from the floor, with six of those coming from behind the arc. The Bulldogs closed the gap to five (27-22) by the 5:49 mark but trailed by a dozen (42-30) at the break. Gannon hit 16 of its 24 first half field goal attempts (66.7 percent) which included five-of-nine from three point land.

Jason Ingram opened Bowie State's second half scoring with a conventional three point play forcing Tyler Stocznski to the Golden Knights bench with three personal fouls and then hit a rainbow three-point bucket to make the score 44-36. Senior
David Paris stuck to free throws and Ingram narrowed the gap to 44-40 on a break away dunk with 16:19 remaining. Stocznski picked up his fourth foul sending sophomore
Christian Jackson to the free throw line for a pair. Jackson made one of two, capping off an 11-2 run. Gannon's Pierre Howard stopped the drought with a lay-up at the 13:46 mark. Freshman Delano Johnson scored a lay-up of his own but Howard answered with another lay-up.
Gannon put together a 9-0 run to push the Golden Knights lead to 53-44 but Ingram quickly responded with another three-pointer with just over 11 minutes to play. Senior
Carlos Williams knocked down his third triple of the night, cutting the Gannon lead to 54-50. However, that's as close as Bowie State would get fro the remainder of the contest.
Williams led Bowie State with team-highs of 19 points and six assists. Ingram, a member of the Porreco Cup All-Tournament Team, put 18 points in the book, hitting 7-of-11 from the field and Paris chipped in nine points and six rebounds of his own for the Bulldogs. Bowie State shot 38.3 percent (23-60) from the field, which included 38.5 percent from three-point range, and 50 percent (12-24) from the free throw line.
Vince Mosley paced Gannon with 24 points and Howard along with Kyle Goldcamp added 18 and 16 points respectively for the Golden Knights. Gannon knocked down 27-of-43 from the floor (62.8 percent), 8-of-16 (50 percent) behind the three-point line and converted 19-of-29 from the charity stripe.
Gannon improves to 10-1 on the year and drops Bowie State to 6-5 overall. BSU's Bulldogs will open the second half of the season - Thursday, January 3rd, hosting Fayetteville State University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Bowie State's A.C. Jordan Arena.
