(BOWIE, Md.) The Bulldogs of Bowie State snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 5-4 on the season, while Shepherd University falls to 1-7 on the year after a 77-61 victory over the Rams in a non-conference contest.
The Bulldogs were led by Charles Richardson (Suitland, MD, Suitland, Montgomery - Takoma Park C.C.) who scored 19 points, with 12 of those coming in the second half alone. Richardson was 5-of-8 from the floor which included 2-of-4 behind the arc to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Bowie State shot 46.3 percent from the floor, making 25-of-54 field goals. As a team, BSU punished Shepherd inside, scoring 38 points in the paint and turned 18 Shepherd turnovers into 22 points. Other than Richardson's point production, three other Bowie State players finished in double figures. Armond Hill (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook, Montgomery - Rockville C.C.) recorded 16 points on the night to go along with eight rebounds. Curtis Massey (Upper Marlboro, MD, Largo, Dodge City CC) added 13 points and seven rebounds to the stat sheet and Cassin Diggs (Williamsport, PA, Williamsport, University of Pittsburgh) chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Shepherd was led by sophomore Liki Turner (Richmond, Va.) with a team-high 14 points. Turner was aided by sophomore Jonathan Motichka (Chambersburg, Pa.) tallied 13 points and Tariq Uqdah (Lanham, Md.) scored 11 points off the Rams bench. The Rams closed out the game shooting 21-of-60 from the field (35 percent) which included 10-of-35 (29 percent) behind the arc.
The Bulldogs of Bowie State University will close out the first half the season – Saturday (12/20) hosting the nationally ranked (10th – NABC Coaches Poll) Jaguars of Augusta (Ga.) State University. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
