LADY BULLDOGS TROUNCE SHAW IN SEASON OPENER FOR BOWIE STATE

(RALEIGH, NC) The defending CIAA softball champions of Bowie State University trounced the Shaw University Lady Bears 37-0 and 21-0 in the season opener for the Lady Bulldogs.

Bowie State combined for 45 hits in the two-game sweep while holding Shaw to just four hits overall. Senior Jillian Willey hurled a one-hitter in five innings in the first game and junior Heather Enders tossed a three-hitter in the second game. Enders was a combined 9-for-10 which included two doubles and a home run. The Lady Bulldogs blasted a total of seven home runs in both games including five in game one.

Junior Tiffany Toney went 6-for-10 in the double dip and just missed the cycle, accounting for two doubles, a triple and and a home run. Senior Erin Gray had a solid afternoon, going 6-for-8 in two games which included three home runs and a double. Juniors Virginia Hockey and Tricia Corbin played long ball as well, cracking home runs in the sweep.

Bowie State returns to the diamond - Saturday (3/15) and will face the Lady Falcons of St. Augustine's College at the Walnut Creek Complex in Raleigh (NC). The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
