(RALEIGH, NC) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs improved their early season record to 4-0, grounding the St. Augustine's College Lady Falcons 17-1 and 22-0.
In game one of the twin bill, each team went scoreless in the first inning. However, Bowie State scored six in the top of the second and seven runs in the top half of the third inning and pounded out nine hits to take a comfortable 13-0 advantage.. BSU's Lady Bulldogs added three more runs in their half of the fourth inning before allowing St. Augustine's Diamond Andrews to score the Lady Falcons lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Bethany Sloat scored Bowie State's final run of game one after junior Tricia Corbin reached on an error.
Bowie State recorded 16 hits in the first game and was led by junior Heather Enders with four. Fellow juniors Tiffany Toney and Corbin had three hits and freshman Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD - Montgomery Blair HS) added two hits in the 17-1 victory.
Bowie State turned it up a bit in game two, roughing up St. Augustine's pitching for 19 hits and forced the Lady Falcons into six errors. The BSU Lady Bulldogs pushed four across in the first inning, five in the second and a whopping 13 runs in the top of the third inning. Senior Erin Gray and juniors Virginia Hockey and Enders were responsible for four runs each and included a game-high three doubles by Gray. Enders pitched five complete innings, picked up her second win of the season and recorded her first career no-hitter.
Bowie State will take their unblemished record into Sunday's (3/16) home opener against Shepherd (WV) University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (weather permitting).
