(WEST CHESTER, PA) West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) handed Bowie State University their first setbacks of the season, beating the Lady Bulldogs 11-2 and 8-0.
Bowie State went down in order in the top of the first to begin game one. West Chester put three on the board in their half of the first, banging out four hits. West Chester pounded out another five hits and added on five more runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-0 advantage.
BSU's Lady Bulldogs finally avoided the shutout, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning. Erin Gray and Tiffany Toney crossed the plate, scoring two unearned runs for Bowie State and accounted for two of its three total hits in that inning. West Chester scored one in their half of the third and added two more runs in the fourth inning to close out Bowie State 11-2.
It was all West Chester in the nightcap as Shannon Padula tossed a five-inning no-hitter in game two of a non-league doubleheader, striking out six. On the other hand, West Chester's Golden Rams cranked out 12 hits, helping the home team to an 8-0 shutout. Erin MacNamee went a combined 6-for-7 with three RBI's, and Jamie McComb was 5-for-6 with two RBI's in the twinbill. Katie Kmiencinski knocked in five runs combined, going 2-for-3 in the second game alone.
Bowie State (4-2) will look to bounce back with another non-conference contest - Wednesday, March 19th, hosting the Lincoln (PA) University Lady Lions at 2 p.m.
