(BOWIE, MD) Slippery Rock (PA) University won both games of a twinbill at Bowie State, beating the Lady Bulldogs 8-5 and 9-2. The wins improve The Rock to 12-2 on the year and drops Bowie State's record to 4-4 overall.
Winning pitcher Lisa Getgen helped her own cause with a pair of hits in Game 1 to lead a seven-hit Rock attack, while Nikki Collins collected two RBI. Getgen yielded three earned runs on six hits, struck out four and walked two in six innings of mound action. Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs were paced by seniors Erin Gray and Bethany Sloat in the opener. Gray totaled three hits in four at bats and was credited with three RBI while Sloat accounted for two hits in three at bats. Of Slippery Rock's eight first game runs, only two were earned.
Bowie State stayed within striking distance in the nightcap. trailing only 4-2 after six inning of play. Unfortunately for BSU, the slippery Rock bats came alive in the top of the seventh inning, breaking the game wide open. The Rock scored five runs on five hits to take a 9-2 advantage. Jessica Ellebruch led The Rock's Game 2 effort with a 3-for-4, two-RBI game.
Bowie State junior pitcher Heather Enders led the home team with four hits in four plate appearances in Game 2 and was responsible for pushing BSU's only runs across the plate. Enders (2-2) pitched a complete game, allowed 11 hits, walked three batters and struck out two. Junior Tiffany Toney had two hits in the final game and Gray and Sloat added a hit apiece. Winning pitcher Stacey Rhoades, Whitney Warmus and Jordan Zeunges each added a pair of hits and one RBI. Rhoades allowed two earned runs of five hits, struck out five and walked two in five innings of mound action before Shauna Walker scattered three hits and walked one in the final two frames.
Bowie State will play its third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent of the season, next Tuesday, March 25th, this time hosting the Huskies of Bloomsburg University at 3 p.m.
