(BOWIE, MD) It was senior day for Jillian Willey, Erin Gray and Bethany Sloat and the final home game of the season for Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs. It was also a key CIAA Eastern Division matchup with Elizabeth City State and BSU tied for second. Well, the defending CIAA Champions of Bowie State had no trouble at all, pounding the Lady Vikings 14-2 and 14-4. The wins send Bowie State into the conference championships (4/17-19) as the #2 Seed in the East and lift the Lady Bulldogs record to 13-4 in the CIAA (6-2 in the East) and 20-8 overall.
Elizabeth City State (7-13, 7-9 in the CIAA and 4-4 in the East) scored one in the top half of the 1st inning but Bowie State responded with six runs in their share of the inning. BSU added five more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take an 11-1 advantage. ECSU's Lady Vikings scored their final run of game one in the 4th inning on a solo homer to right center by Maria Bowser. Bowie State junior Tiffany Toney scored her third run of the game in the bottom of inning four after doubling to right center, scoring sophomore Breaun Garner from second.
Junior Heather Enders went 2-for-2 in the first game and knocked in three RBI to tie Toney for game-high honors and fellow junior Tricia Corbin went 3-for-4. As a team, Bowie State pounded out 14 hits while Elizabeth City State managed five hits in the opening game.
The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game two when Asha Martin scored on passed ball in the first frame. Unfortunately for ECSU, Bowie State put six in the book in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back. Bowie State added three runs in the 2nd inning and pushed another four runs across in the 3rd inning to take a commanding 13-2 advantage.
Sophomore Annette Makle led Bowie State in game two, going 3-for-3 and knocked in a game-high four RBI. Junior Virginia Hockey also had a productive game, scoring three runs and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Winning pitcher Heather Enders (10-4) struck out eight and scored three runs in the nightcap.
