(Bowie, Md.) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs crushed the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State 60-38.
Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll),
Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic),
Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) and
Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) scored 10 points each to pace Bowie State. Robinson also
hauled down a career-high 14 rebounds in the win. The victory improves Bowie State's record to 10-9 overall and 9-3 in the CIAA.
Whether it was poor shooting and/or great defense, Bowie State dominated from start to finish. Fayetteville State shot a horrifying 20 percent from the field in the first half, making only six-of-30 from the floor. Bowie State hit 12-of-35 (34 percent) in the first half and held a comfortable 31-17 lead at halftime.
Bowie State opened the second half with a 15-6 run to extend the Lady Bulldogs lead to 46-24 at the 10:10 mark. BSU's Lady Bulldogs scored 22 points off 20 FSU Lady Broncos on the night with 38 points coming in the paint.
Fayetteville State's shooting woes continued the second half with the guests making just seven-of-38 (18 percent) from the field. If there was a bright spot for Fayetteville State, it came on the defensive end with Randi Watts blocking a game-high two blocks. As a team, Fayetteville State blocked six shots overall in the contest.
Deja Middleton led Fayetteville State with a team-high five points and seven rebounds. Porsche Mitchell, Tressa Aughburns, Saybah Sammy and Tiffany Haywood scored four points each in the loss. Fayetteville State (14-6, 9-4 CIAA) heads north to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania – Monday (2/2) at 5:30 p.m.
Bowie State travels to Richmond (Va.) for a Tuesday, February 3rd Eastern Division single game against Virginia Union University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in VUU's Barco-Stevens Hall.
