(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State University put together a late second half rally, erasing an 18-point deficit before falling 73-69 down the stretch to West Virginia State University. Senior Ted King (Columbus, OH) scored a game-high 31 points and teammates Hensley Charles (Hillsdale, N.J.) and Darren Jones (Cleveland, OH) added 17 and 16 points respectively to pace the WVSU Yellow Jackets.

West Virginia State (6-3) put Bowie State in a 9-0 hole early in the first half and increased that lead to 22-8 by the 10:43 mark. The West Virginia State Yellow Jackets expanded its lead to 18 points (38-20) with 3:56 remaining before halftime and parlayed that into a 41-26 cushion by intermission.

Bowie State's Bulldogs shot a first half season-low of 19 percent from the field (six-of-31), scoring 12 of their first period total via the charity stripe. On the other hand, West Virginia State's Yellow Jackets hit 13-of-29 first period field goals (45 percent), including 13-of-17 from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets appeared to strong on the inside in the first 20 minutes, outscoring the BSU Bulldogs 14 to 4 in the paint.

West Virginia State maintained their double-digit lead until Bowie State junior Corey Camphor (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha) drained a triple at the 12:57 mark of the second half, pulling the Bulldogs within nine at 52-43. BSU junior Corey Stevens (Glenarden, MD, Good Counsel) closed the margin to seven before West Virginia State's Jones popped a 3-pointer with just under 11 minutes to play.

Bowie State (6-6) went on a 12-5 run over the next 4 minutes and 11 seconds to pull within three at 60-57. Junior Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) provided seven Bowie State points during that stretch. Scott and Hensley gave West Virginia State a little breathing room (64-59) on the Yellow Jackets next two possessions courtesy of a field goal apiece.

Bowie State junior Armond Hill (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook, Montgomery - Rockville C.C.) pulled the Bulldogs within two (65-63) on layup and Stevens drilled a deep 3-point bucket to tie the game at 66 with 2:17 remaining in regulation. Crews converted one-of-two free throws and a Hill stick back gave Bowie State its first and only lead of the night at 69-66.

Scott, playing most of the second half with four fouls, nailed his third 3-pointer of the game at the 1:33 mark to knot things up at 69. Scott followed that up with a short bank shot and added two free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the victory for West Virginia State.
