FSU LADY BRONCOS SQUEEZE BY BOWIE STATE 73-70

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.)  Fayetteville State University's Deja Middleton scored four of her total 10 points in the final 26 seconds of the game to lift the Lady Broncos to a 73-70 comeback victory over the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs.  

Bowie State led by 10 points (26-16) late in the first half and took a 34-30 advantage into halftime. BSU's Bulldogs connected on 12 of their 28 first period field goal attempts (43 percent), which included three-of-six behind the 3-point line and 7-of-14 from the free throw line.

Fayetteville State (2-1, 2-0 CIAA) made 12-of-34 first half field goals (35 percent) and went four-of-six from the charity stripe. The Lady Broncos long range game struggled throughout the game as FSU hit just two-of-nine beyond the 3-point line and three-of-16 overall.

Bowie State (1-3, 1-1 CIAA) maintained a lead until a layup and free throw by Fayetteville State's L'oreal Price put the home team in front (45-44 briefly) at the 14:17 mark of the second half. Bowie State responded with a 9-0 run to open up a 53-45 advantage.

Fayetteville State managed to pull to within one (57-56) with 6:16 left to play, but the visiting Lady Bulldogs pushed the lead back to eight (66-58) with just over minutes remaining in the contest.

Junior Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) scored a career-high 25 points and fellow junior Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) along with senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) added 16 and 15 points respectively to lead Bowie State. 

Price paced Fayetteville State's offense with 21 points and Tiffany Haywood chipped in 20 points. Haywood and Middleton were beasts on the boards, hauling down 12 and 11 rebounds respectively. Danielle Russell also scored in double figures for Fayetteville State, scoring a dozen points for the Lady Broncos.

The Lady Bulldogs will break for Thanksgiving, then make their home debut – Saturday, November 28th, hosting the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Tip time in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena is 5:30 p.m.
