(RALEIGH, N.C.) Bowie State ran their current winning streak to four games after defeating Saint Augustine's College 61-45, improving its record to 12-9 on the year and 11-3 in the CIAA.
The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs led the entire first half and held a 14 point advantage (28-14) at the 5:06 mark. BSU connected on 10-of-22 first half field goal attempts (46 percent) which included three-of-nine behind the arc and 10-of-13 from the free throw line and went into halftime with a 33-24 lead.
Saint Augustine's (11-10, 6-8 CIAA) made nine-of 28 from the floor, four-of-12 behind the arc and two-of-four from the charity stripe. LeKiesha White and Keyona Bryant led the Lady Falcons in the first half with eight and six points respectively.
The Bowie State lead grew to a game-high 17 points (48-31) with 11:22 left in the game, capping off a 13-7 run. Saint Augustine's trimmed their deficit to nine, going on an 8-0 run but would get no closer.
Sophomores
Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and
Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) paced Bowie State with 20 and 12 points respectively. Robinson also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while Walker and junior
Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) added six rebounds each.
Bryant led Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons with 12 points and added eight rebounds. White also scored in double-digits, chipping in 12 points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.
Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs continue its Western Division swing with a Saturday (2/7) contest against the Lady Bears of Shaw University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Shaw's Spaulding Gymnasium.
