FREE THROWS LIFT BOWIE STATE OVER ST. AUGUSTINE'S

(RALEIGH, N.C.) Senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) knocked down two free throws with six seconds left in the game to lift Bowie State University to a 60-58 come-from-behind victory over St. Augustine's College.

The free throws capped an 11-2 rally for the Lady Bulldogs (4-3 overall, 4-1 CIAA), who trailed 56-49 in the final three minutes. The Lady Bulldogs scored six points off three turnovers during the stretch, including a steal by Lee in the closing seconds. Lee was fouled on the floor after the steal.

Lee finished with six of the Lady Bulldogs' 13 steals. Senior Denita Hill (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) led BSU's Lady Bulldogs with 14 points, tying her career-high, and junior Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Brianna Taylor (Upper Marlboro, MD, Riverdale Baptist School) chipped in 11 points.

Keyona Bryant (Springdale, Md.) led St. Augustine's with 17 points and three blocked shots. LeKiesha White (Richmond, Va.) had 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals, and Allison Sykes (Richmond, Va.) had 12 points and eight points rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who led most of the game.

Both teams shot 36 percent, but the Lady Bulldogs dominated the backboards 48-33 including a 24-12 edge in offensive rebounds. The decisive advantage led to Bowie State outscoring St. Augustine's 23-4 in second-chance points.

Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs return to conference action – Monday, January 4 facing the Lady Bears of Shaw University. Game time in Shaw's C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium is 5:30 p.m.
