BOX SCORE

(BOWIE, Md.)  Bowie State University relied on aggressive rebounding and took advantage of cold shooting and mistakes by Saint Augustine's College to stifle the Lady Falcons 52-37.

The Lady Bulldogs (9-4 overall, 9-2 CIAA) relied on a 60-44 rebounding edge, 19 points off 18 Lady Falcon turnovers and 22 percent shooting by the Lady Falcons to stretch their win streak at home over the Lady Falcons (9-7 overall, 6-4 CIAA) to seven games. The last time the Lady Falcons beat the Lady Bulldogs in Bowie, Md., was 54-43 on Nov. 28, 2000.

The Lady Falcons entered the game on a high, having won five consecutive games. They stayed close early but never recovered from a late first-half run by the Lady Bulldogs.

With the score tied at 18-18 at the 5:08 mark, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 10-0 spurt for a 28-18 halftime lead. Junior Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and senior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) scored five points apiece to key the run.

The Lady Bulldogs, who led the entire way, never looked back from that point. A basket by sophomore Brittney Barber (Clinton, MD, Surrattsville) pushed the lead to 38-21 with 12:25 remaining in the second half. The lead eventually grew to 19 points with 5:39 left on layup by junior Brianna Taylor (Upper Marlboro, MD, Riverdale Baptist School), and the Lady Bulldogs were well on their way to their fifth straight win.

Robinson led a balanced attack for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points. Sophomore Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) added nine points and 12 rebounds, and senior Denita Hill (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) had eight points for the Lady Bulldogs, who shot 29 percent but pulled away on the strength of their rebounding. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Falcons 11-5 in second chance points.

LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) scored a season-high15 points for the Lady Falcons. Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.), the St. Augustine's Lady Falcons' leading scorer with an 18.6 average, was held to a season-low eight points, but yanked 11 rebounds.

The game was much different than the first meeting, a 60-58 Lady Bulldog win on Jan. 2. The one constant was rebounding with the Lady Bulldogs winning the battle of the boards in that contest (48-33).
