(CALIFORNIA, Pa.) Playing for only the fourth time in the history of both schools, California University of Pennsylvania continued its series unbeaten streak (4-0), cruising to a 92-76 victory of 11th ranked Bowie State University. The win drops Bowie State to 5-1 on the year while Cal U. improves to 3-1.
Bowie State had their best free throw shooting game of the season, going 17-of-19 from the charity stripe but was cold as the night air from the field. The Bulldogs shot a dismal (24-of-64) from the field (38 percent) and were out-rebounded 44-28. The rebound total for Bowie State matched California's defensive rebound total.
Points in the paint were also large for California (PA) as the Vulcans held a 42-22 advantage there.
Senior Eric Vann (Clinton, MD, Gwynn Park, Prince George's C.C.) led Bowie State's Bulldogs with 24 points and sophomore Byron Westmorland (Baltimore, MD, Mergenthaler, Baltimore City C.C.) chipped in 16 points. Westmorland led Bowie State on the glass with a personal season-high of six.
Other top scorers for Bowie State include junior Darren Clark with 14 and freshman Julian Harrell with 10 points
Joe Brenato led the way for the Vulcans with a team-high 17 points and Rashawd Hatten pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
As a team, California (PA) hit a blistering 56 percent from the field, connecting on 33-of-59, which included 6-of-11 behind the arc.
The Bulldogs will be idle until Saturday, December 18th when the Bulldogs travel to Goldey-Beacom College (Wilmington, Del.) for a 2 pm non-conference game against the Lightning.
