ST. AUGUSTINES LADY FALCONS DROP BOWIE STATE 67-55

Jackson Paces Bowie State With 16 Points

BOX SCORE

(BOWIE, Md.) For the second straight game, the Bowie State offense had a tough time getting started. However, the result versus Saint Augustine's College was different as the Lady Falcons dropped the lady Bulldogs 67-55. The loss, Bowie State's first in the conference put the Lady Bulldogs record at 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA.

Allison Sikes poured in a game-high 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting to lead the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons. The victory was the first for the lady Falcons at Bowie State since 2000, a span of seven straight losses.

Saint Augustine's (10-4, 4-0 CIAA) opened a double-digit lead midway through the first period (20-9), with Sikes contributing half of those points and took a 39-21 into halftime.

Sikes added six rebounds, four assists and two steals. The assists were a game-high, and the rebounds and steals tied team-high honors. Sikes had plenty of help in knocking off the lady Bulldogs. Brittany Torain added 13 points while Umeka Benson and Le'Kiesha White both chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

Bowie State University turned the ball over 25 times, resulting in 26 Saint Augustine's points off the turnovers.

Teaunsha Robinson

Behind by double figures most of the afternoon, the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs made a late rally. Senior Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) scored on two straight layups to bring Bowie State within 61-52 with three minutes left, capping a 10-1 run in a four-minute span.

Senior Brittney Jackson (Laurel, MD, Laurel) had the hot hand for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting including two three-pointers. Robinson added 11 points, all in the second half, on 5-for-10 shooting and junior Juliette Turner (Atlanta, GA, John F. Kennedy) collected 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. But turnovers and free throws were the undoing for the Lady Bulldogs, who hit 17 of 29 free throws.

Bowie State will hit the road for its next two conference contests, heading south to face Livingstone College – Tuesday (1/18) and Johnson C. Smith University – Thursday (1/20). The Lady Bulldogs return home – Saturday (1/22) to host Chowan University at 5:30 pm.
