(BOWIE, Md.) The Lady Bulldogs surged to a 21-point halftime lead and coasted thereafter, sending six Bowie State seniors out with a 76-49 win over Virginia Union.
Bowie State (17-9, 12-6 CIAA, 9-3 North) spotted Virginia Union's Lady Panthers a 6-0 advantage before going on an 8-2 run to pull even at 8-8 at the 12:02 mark. From there the BSU run continued with a 16-0 run and another 13-2 run to bust the game wide open at 35-10 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. Bowie State held Virginia Union to one field goal in the final eight minutes of the half and strolled into intermission with a 35-14 cushion.
The Lady Bulldogs seniors (
Brittney Jackson (Laurel, MD, Laurel),
Brianna Taylor (Upper Marlboro, MD, Riverdale Baptist School, Cheyney),
Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy),
Tiana Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie),
Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and
Brittne Gowdy (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy)) played briefly at the start of the second half before many of the BSU reserves took over.
Jackson and Taylor scored 15 and 10 points respectively for the victorious Lady Bulldogs. Gowdy led Bowie State on the glass with six rebounds to go along with seven points.
Tiffany Clarke scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Leslie Slayton chipped in 12 points for Virginia Union (3-21, 3-14 CIAA, 3-8 North).
Bowie State's seeding position has not be determined.
