14th Ranked Virginia State Rolls 94-72 Over Bowie State Lady Bulldogs

Brooke Miles Ties for Team-High Scoring Honors with 13 Points
Box Score ETTRICK, Va. - Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs played well early, but Virginia State was just too strong and rolled to a 94-72 victory. The win was the 6th straight for the Lady Trojans and improved their overall record to 16-1, 7-1 in the conference and 3-0 in the North.
 
Graduate student Brooke Miles (Upper Marlboro, Md.) along with junior Donia Naylor (Washington, D.C.) paced BSU's Lady Bulldogs with 13 points apiece. Junior Denver Clyde (Glen Burnie, Md.) added a dozen points and junior teammates Alisha Burley (Baltimore, Md.) and Ashley Castle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points each respectively. Castle handed out a game and career-high 10 assists in the loss.
 
The 14th ranked Lady Trojans took an early 11-4 lead by the 16:34 mark of the first half, forcing Lady Bulldogs head coach Renard Smith to call a quick 30 second timeout. Bowie State closed the gap to 19-15 at the 11:50 mark on a layup by Clyde. Clyde pulled BSU within two at 22-20 on deep three in front of the Virginia State bench.
 
Virginia State shot well from long range in the first half, knocking down 4-of-6 3-pointers and took a 48-35 lead into the halftime break. The Lady Bulldogs made 17-of-31 first half field goals (54.8 percent) with Pryncess Tate-Dublin (Suitland, Md.) leading the way with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
 
Turnovers played a part in Bowie State's halftime deficit as the Lady Bulldogs committed 10 which translated into 17 Virginia State points. The Lady Bulldogs shot 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from the field in the first half of play with Clyde pacing the team with 10 points. Bowie State was able to hold an advantage on the glass in the first 20 minutes, out-rebounding the Lady Trojans 18-15.
 
Virginia State started the second half with a 15-6 run that pushed the Virginia State lead to 63-41 at the 14:35 media timeout.  
 
A triple by Miles trimmed the Virginia State lead down to 70-54 with 10:19 remaining in the game but that's as close as Bowie State would get.
 
Virginia State was led by Lamesha Deal (Norfolk, Va.) with game-highs of 24 points and eight rebounds to go along with two assists. Tate-Dublin chipped in 20 points on 8-of 10 shooting and added four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Jessica Lyons (Upper Marlboro, Md.) rounded out the Lady Trojans' double figure scorers with 10 points and a team-high seven assists.
 
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (February 1), traveling to Elizabeth City (N.C.) State University for a 3 pm contest against the Lady Vikings.
