Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Bowie State University women's basketball team picked up a much needed CIAA division win on Saturday afternoon, holding off Chowan by a score of 64-56 at the CU Helms Center.

The Lady Bulldogs (10-11, 5-8 CIAA, 4-3 North) were led by senior Alessandra Flores Conway (Hagerstown, Md.) with a career-high 13 points and junior Donia Naylor (Washington, D.C.) recorded 12 points in the win. Juniors Ashley Castle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Denver Clyde (Glen Burnie, Md.) added 11 and 10 points respectively for Bowie State. Clyde was Bowie State's top rebounder with eight.

It was a slow start for Bowie State as the Lady Bulldogs began the game missing six straight shots allowing Chowan to take an early 4-0 lead. Bowie State calmed down and went on a 7-0 to take a 7-4 lead at the first media timeout at the 14:07 mark. A Nayor steal and fast break layup by junior Alisha Burley (Baltimore, Md.) pushed the Lady Bulldogs lead to 9-4 following the timeout.

The Lady Bulldogs lead grew to 29-21 at the half with the Bowie State defense holding Chowan to just 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) shooting from the field. Free throws are what kept the Hawks close in the first 20 minutes, making 12-of-18 from the charity stripe.

Bowie State hit 11-of-27 first period field goals (40.7 percent) with Clyde leading the team with six points and Naylor along with Burley added five points each.

Alisha Mobley was responsible for exactly half of Chowan's first half points on 2-of-5 shooting from the floor but 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs lead grew to 11 (47-36) by the 8:03 mark of the second half following a Chowan technical foul and a pair of free throws by Flores Conway. Back-to-back Chowan field goals trimmed the Bowie State lead to 47-42, forcing a Lady Bulldogs timeout with 6:37 left to play, but the Hawks would get no closer.

Chowan's Hawks (11-13, 5-8 CIAA, 3-4 North) were led by Mobley's game-high double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kaela Nelson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with one block and two steals.

In terms of final team stats, Bowie State ended the game with a shooting percentage of 33.9 percent (19-of-56) and 22-of-30 (73.3 percent) at the free throw line.  Chowan finished the contest hitting 15-of 64 field goals (23.4 percent), 24-of-42 free throws (59.5) and dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Bowie State 52-36.
