Livingstone’s Blue Bears Squeeze Out 95-94 Overtime Win Against Bowie State’s Bulldogs

SALISBURY, N.C. – Senior Justin Beck (Ellicott City, Md.) recorded a career-high 30 points which included 10-of-12 free throws for Bowie State University but dropped a 95-94 overtime thriller at Livingstone College on Tuesday evening.  The loss snaps a five-game win streak and sets the Bulldogs overall record at 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.  With the win, Livingstone improves to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA.
 
The Bulldogs finished the game with three other double-figure scorers as senior Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md.) nets 21 points and senior teammate Miles Jackson (Silver Spring, Md.) contributed 16 points.  Junior Michael Briscoe (Waldorf, Md.) scored 11 points and handed out tied his career-high assists mark with seven in forty minutes of action.
 
Livingstone was led by Eric Dubose with a team-high 23 points.  Daryl Trynham scored 20 points while adding a game-high 11 assists and Ty Newman contributed 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Two other Blue Bears' players had a productive outing as Nasir Austin tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds and Codero Holt was responsible for 13 points.
 
The Bulldogs owned a 46-43 lead at intermission on 50 percent shooting from the field (16-of-32), which included 6-of-15 behind the arc (40 percent) and 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) at the charity stripe.
 
The Blue Bears made 15-of-35 first half field goals (42.9 percent) and 11-of-15 at the free throw line (73.3 percent) in the opening half.
 
Both team shot fairly even in the second half and visiting Bowie State held a 17-point advantage (73-56) at the 9:07 mark. From that point Livingstone outscored Bowie State 25-9 to pull within one at 82-81 with 2:26 remaining in regulation.
 
A Dubose jumper with 43 seconds left on the New Trent Gymnasium scoreboard knotted the game at 87-all, sending the game into overtime.
 
The lead switched hands three times in the extra frame but two free throws by Livingstone's Dubose with 13 seconds to go, accounted for the final margin.
 
Bowie State returns home for its next three games beginning this Thursday (January 7th) hosting Saint Augustine's University at 7:30 p.m.  The Bulldogs welcome Shaw University to the A.C. Jordan Arena on Saturday (January 9th) for a 4 p.m. tipoff and close out the three-game hosting Fayetteville State University next Monday (January 11th) at 7:30 p.m.
