Livingstone Erases Deficit and Strolls to 59-51 Win Against Bowie State

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Bowie State women's basketball team surrendered a tough 59-51 decision to Livingstone College on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs' record moves to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
 
Sophomore Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) recorded a game-high 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Fellow sophomore Kyah Proctor (Capitol Heights, Md.) finished the game with 11 points while junior Ashley Jennings (Newark, N.J.) and senior Alauna Jackson (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied nine and eight points respectively for the Lady Bulldogs.
 
Jennings was Bowie State's leading rebounder with eight while Colston and sophomore Jasmine Orsted (Dickson, Tenn.) grabbed five rebounds each.
 
Livingstone (7-4 / 2-0 CIAA) was led by Amber Curtis (Savannah, Ga.), Britany Taylor (Suitland, Md.) and Bria Patterson (Winter Haven, Fla.) with 16, 13 and 11 points respectively. Taylor hauled down a team-high eight rebounds and dished out team-best four assists for the victorious Lady Blue Bears.
 
Livingstone won the rebounding battle 52-43 including 20 boards off the offensive glass that resulted into 16 second chance points.
 
Bowie State turned the ball over a season-high 24 times and shot a frigid 21.7 percent from the field (19-of-60) in the contest.
 
The Lady Bulldogs opened the game with a 12-0 shutout before Livingstone was able score its first bucket at the 4:48 mark of the opening quarter. Bowie State extended their lead to 28-15 by intermission.
 
Bowie State held a 16-point cushion twice, its largest lead of the game, with the last coming at the 8:42 mark of the third quarter at 35-19. However, Livingstone slowly climb back into the game and pulled to within four (39-35) by the end of the third quarter.
 
The Lady Bulldogs offense really went south in the fourth quarter, scoring just two points over an eight minute span, which came via a Jackson jumper at the 9:07 mark of the fourth.
 
Livingstone's Lady Blue Bears used a 17-2 run to take their first and only lead of the contest and pushed the home team advantage to 52-41 and strolled the rest of the way to the win.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday (January 7th), hosting the Saint Augustine's University Lady Falcons at 5:30 p.m. in Bowie State's A.C. Jordan Arena.
