BOWIE., Md. – Indiana (Pa.) University held a slim first half lead and broke the game open late in the third quarter to defeat Bowie State University women's basketball 53-37 on Wednesday evening in the A.C. Jordan Arena. The loss was Bowie State's first of the year and sets the Bulldogs record at 4-1 heading into the Thanksgiving break.

Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) was the only Bulldogs player to score in double figures with 11 points. Graduate student
Sade Chatman (Minneapolis, Minn.) contributed nine points and tied for team-high rebound honors with six. Senior
Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) chipped in seven points and scored her 1,000 career point. Sophomore
Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) and senior
Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) rounded out Bowie State scorers with four and two points respectively.
IUP (5-0) was led by Megan Smith with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor to go along with five rebounds, one block and one steal. Carolyn Appleby recorded 14 points and Lauren Wolosik tallied 11 points in the win for the Crimson Hawks.
The Crimson Hawks led just 15-13 at halftime, as both teams combined to shoot just 12-of-49 from the floor. Indiana (Pa.) came out hot in the third quarter, using a 10-0 run during a 2:08 span to grab a 32-21 lead near the end of the period.
The scoring continued in the fourth, with an 8-0 run giving the Crimson Hawks a comfortable 18-point lead with five minutes to play. After just 15 points in the first half, IUP scored a combined 38 points in the third and fourth quarters to post the 26-point win. IUP finished the night shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, hitting 20-of-47 field goals, which included 4-of-17 behind the 3-point line.
Bowie State's Bulldogs struggled shooting the entire evening, finishing the game with a field goal shooting percentage of 28 percent (14-of-50), which included a frigid 16.7 percent from the field (2-of-12) in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs women will break for Thanksgiving and return to the hardwood on Thursday, November 30th, traveling to Goldey-Beacom College (Wilmington, Del.). Game time is set for 6 p.m. in the Joseph West Jones Center.
