Duke Blue Devils Down Bulldogs, 116-53, in Exhibition Opener for Bowie State

DURHAM, N.C. - The Bowie State University men's basketball team fell to top ranked Duke University, 116-53, on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game was played as exhibition contest for both teams.  PHOTOS (Courtesy of Roderick Washington)
 
The Bulldogs were led by redshirt sophomore David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.) with 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Seniors Ahmaad Wilson and Omari George, both of Baltimore (Md.) chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively and combined for seven rebounds.
 
Duke used a dominant defensive effort, holding Bowie State to 27.3 percent shooting (18-of-66) from the floor for the game and pounded the ball in the paint, outscoring the Bulldogs 76-14.
 
The outcome was never in doubt with Duke opening up leads of 9-0 and 28-3 within the first eight minutes of the contest. Grayson Allen led the way with seven points in the first eight minutes while Marvin Bagley, III and Gary Trent Jr. poured in six points each.
 
The Blue Devils opened the second half with an 11-5 run over the opening 2:35 and took an 82-32 lead on a Wendall Carter, Jr. dunk. The Duke lead ballooned to 63 points, 101-38, on a layup from Trent Jr. with 9:42 to play in the game.
 
For the contest, Duke shot 59.0 percent (46-of-78) from the floor, contributed 27 assists and outrebounded Bowie State 58-27.
 
Bagley poured in a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Carter added 23 points and ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds to lead #1 Duke. Trent finished the afternoon with 22 points and Allen added 21 points and recorded a game-high 11 assists.
 
The Bulldogs begin the season on Friday, Nov. 10, against Shepherd University in the nightcap of the Clarion Hotel Classic.
