BOWIE, Md. - Nine Bowie State University student-athletes were highlighted for their academic achievements during the 2016-17 season by the Division II Athletics Directors Association.
 
Overall, a record 10,644 student-athletes from 183 institutions received Academic Achievement Awards, which recognize the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the NCAA Division II level. The list of academic achievers was released Aug. 25, 2017.
 
To receive the honor, a student-athlete had to meet the following criteria:
 
Have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Completed a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work at a two-year and/or four-year institution
Been an active member of a college team during his or her last academic year
