WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Bulldogs were shut out early in the game and when the final buzzer went off in the second half, Bowie State experienced its fifth straight setback, losing on the road to West Chester by a final score of 76-57.
Bowie State (0-5) began the non-conference contest with a 10-0 deficit before redshirt junior
David Belle hit a jumper at the 15:10 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs first half scoring struggles continued, trailing by as much as 29 (40-11) with 4:14 to go in the first half and went into the break trailing 48-22.
The Bulldogs shot a dismal 8-of-28 (29 percent) from the field which included 0-of-7 beyond the arc over the first 20 minutes compared to 15-of-35 (43 percent) for West Chester.
Bowie State began the second half with an 11-2 run to close the gap to 17 (52-33) but that would be as close as the Bulldogs would get to the Golden Rams for the remainder of the night.
Second half shooting did improve to 43 percent (13-of-30) for the Bulldogs in the second half and finished the game with field goal shooting percentage of 36 percent. West Chester (2-2) knocked down 12-of-30 field goals (40 percent) in the second half and wrapped up the game shooting 42 percent overall. Bowie State matched West Chester on the glass, as each team pulled down 41 rebounds each.
Belle was Bowie State's leading scoring, recording a double-double of 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Junior
Yohance Fleming contributed nine points to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks while sophomore
Keith Duffin, Jr. and junior
Juwun Smith chipped in seven and six points respectively in the loss.
Jackson Hyland led four West Chester Golden Rams in scoring with a game-high 19 points while Frank Rokins tallied 14 points. Malik Jackson and Nick Alikakos netted 10 points each and Terrence Moore was the teams' leading rebounder with eight.
The 57 points were a new season-low for the Bulldogs. Bowie State will look to get into the win column when they host Newberry College on Friday (November 23rd) at 2 p.m.
