BOWIE, Md. -Thanks to an 18-0 run to start the second half, the Bowie State University Bulldogs had no problem on Sunday, blowing past the Winston-Salem State Rams by a score of 76-63. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-1 overall while the Rams drop to 4-6.

Pere Alexander led two Bowie State players in double-figure scoring, accounting for a career-high 25 points to go along with four rebounds while junior
Dynaisha Christian added 15 points and senior
Lea Whitehead contributed a career-best 12 points in the Bulldogs first conference game of the season. Freshmen

Chyna Butler added six points each. Junior
Amel Duggins added five points to go along with three rebounds, a block, and a steal.

The Rams jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter, forcing Bowie State to make adjustments. Following the run, Bowie State University's
Pere Alexander drilled a 3-pointer followed by back-to-back layups by Whitehead to shorten the lead to 20-17, ending the first quarter.

By the under-five-minute mark (4:12), Bowie State tied the game (26-26). Whitehead knocked down a jumper followed by two consecutive made free throws by Winston-Salem State's Laichelle Sparrow. The Rams' point guard Teara Johnson followed that up with two made free throws of her own. Bowie State's Whitehead converted a jumper after that, followed by two free throws from Alexander, to knot the game at 32-all.

BSU's Duggins knocked down a jumper, putting Bowie State up 34-32. Until Winston-Salem State's Johnson and Dehja Williams knocked down free throws, giving the Rams the 35-34 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Butler made both foul shots to give Bowie State the lead. After that, the Bulldogs went on an 18-0 run to strengthen the lead 52-35, which led to the Bulldogs 76-63 victory.

Johnson and Amaya Tucker led the Rams with 15 points each, followed by Brionna Pate adding 12 points to the mix. As of team, Winston-Salem State out-rebounded Bowie State 35-34, forced 21 Bulldog turnovers that resulted in 16 points. However, the Bulldogs outscored the Rams' bench 23-17.

In terms of shooting, Bowie State wrapped up the evening with field goal shooting percentage of 42 percent (22-of-52) and 79 percent from the charity stripe (27-of-34). On the flip side, Winston-Salem shot a dismal 32 percent from the field (19-of-59) and hit 24-of-37 free throws (65 percent).

The Bulldog win will have a short time to rest before returning to action on Monday (December 17th), hosting conference newcomer Claflin University at 5:30 p.m.
