BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball closed out its regular season with a convincing 68-44 home finale victory over Elizabeth City State on Saturday afternoon. The win sets the Bulldogs record at 17-8 overall, 10-6 in the CIAA and 5-5 in the Northern Division.
Seniors
Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.),
Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) and
Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) paced Bowie State with 16, 14 and 10 points respectively in the victory. Graduate student
Sade Chatman pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points, three blocks and a pair of steals.
Senior
Renee Kydd (District Heights, Md.) made her first-ever start and scored a career-high six points while sophomore teammates
Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.),
Dynaisha Christian (Pocomoke, Md.) and redshirt junior
Pere Alexander (Baltimore, Md.) tallied four points each for the Bulldogs. Senior
Lea Whitehead (Odenton, Md.) and sophomore
Amel Duggins (Largo, Md.) rounded out Bowie State's scorers with two points apiece.
Elizabeth City State (9-19, 2-14 CIAA, 0-10 CIAA) was led by Corvonne Griffin (Elizabeth City, N.C.) with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field (all 3-pointers) and added three assists, two rebounds and one block. Tantania Brown (Washington, D.C.) came off the Lady Vikings bench to contribute eight points while Tamara Harvey (Burlington, N.C.) and Devona Stell (Atlanta, Ga.) chipped in seven points each. Stell was Elizabeth City State's leading rebounder with eight.
Bowie State women's basketball will enter the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. as the #4 Seed in the North and will face Shaw University (#6 South) in the opening game at 10 a.m. in the Bojangles Coliseum.
