SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg (Pa.) had the hot hand all night, especially in the first half and had no trouble capturing an 81-68 non-conference win over Bowie State in Heiges Field House on Wednesday evening.
The Bowie State Bulldogs were led by the trio of seniors
Saiquan Jamison (Upper Marlboro, Md.),
Yohance Fleming (Bowie, Md.) and
David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.). Jamison notched his second double-double of the season, pacing the Bulldogs with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Fleming added 12 points and Belle chipped in 11 points.
John Castello and Jake Biss led four Shippensburg (2-1) players in double figure scoring tallying 18 points apiece on a combined 14-of-24 shooting from the field. The other two Raiders to score in double digits were Carlos Carter with 13 and Dom Sleva chipped in 10 points. Kiyon Hardy fell just short of a double-double, contributing nine points and nine rebounds.

Saiquan Jamison stopped the run at the 17:13 mark. led by as much as 14 points three times in the first 20 minutes of action but Bowie State (1-2) was able to close the deficit to 37-27 by halftime. The Bowie State Bulldogs shot 32 percent (10-of-31) from the field in the first 20 minutes compared to 62 percent (16-of-26) for Shippensburg's Raiders. The Bulldogs were able to hold an advantage on the glass in the first half, outrebounding the Raiders 19-17.
The Bulldogs trimmed the gap to eight early in the second half, but the Raiders used a 7-0 run to push the Shippensburg (Pa.) lead to 15 points (46-31) before a layup by senior
Rinardo Perry (Washington, D.C.) stopped that run at the 15:15 mark. However, the deficit grew to a game-high 22 (65-43) with 9:13 remaining on the clock and Shippensburg were never really threatened after that.
Shippensburg's shooting cooled off a bit in the second half as the Raiders shot 58 percent (15-of-26) while Bowie State's shooting improved to 47 percent (16-of-34).
Bowie State shot a season-low 40 percent from the floor, making 26-of-65 which included 3-of-10 beyond the arc, but the Bulldogs outrebounded Raiders 39-33.
Bowie State (1-2) will make its home debut on Saturday (November 16), hosting the Gannon University Golden Knights. Tipoff time in BSU's Leonidas S. James Complex (A.C. Jordan Arena) is set for 4 p.m. and admission is free.
