Fayetteville State Blows Past Bowie State 74-47

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Bowie State University women's basketball team had a night to forget after falling to Fayetteville State University 74-47 in a non-conference contest. The Broncos had three players in double-figures and were led by Katisha Hyman, who dropped 18 points in the victory. The Broncos improve to 9-7 while the Bulldogs dip to 14-2.

Bowie State senior Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Drew Calhoun (New Carrollton, Md.) led the team in scoring with 12 points each. Junior Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, Md.) added nine points and senior Dynaisha Christian (Pocomoke, Md.) contributed seven points. Hutton and Christian were Bowie State's rebound leaders with seven apiece.

Overall, FSU had a solid game of balance scoring with Shantel Bennett and Aminata Johnson both scoring 13 points. London Thompson added 14 huge rebounds for the Broncos as well. Fayetteville State shot a scorching hot 54.7 percent (29-of-54) from the floor while Bowie State struggled at 28.6 percent (16-of-56).

The Broncos opened the game with a 16-3 run in the first nine minutes and closed out the quarter with a 18-5 lead. FSU held a 12-2 advantage while scoring six points off Bowie State's turnovers.

BSU would finally wake up in the second period. However, FSU would continue its dominance and led 31-16 with 5:23 remaining. The Broncos outscored the Bulldogs 12-7 to end the quarter and went into halftime with a 43-23 cushion.

Bowie State would not get closer than 15 points as the home team kept their foot on the pedal throughout the third period and maintained a 20-point lead 57-37 going into the final stanza.

It was one of those games for the Bulldogs as they couldn't get anything going on offense. FSU extended its lead to 68-44 in the fourth period with 2:44 left to play. Nothing changed after that as Bowie State has now dropped two of its last three games.

The Bulldogs will now have five days to regroup until its next matchup at home versus Shaw University on Saturday (1/18). Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
