As a team, the Bulldogs held the Rams to shooting just 30.4 percent (17-of-56) for the game. The Bulldogs didn't fare much better shooting 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the floor in the game. WSSU's Taylor Daniels led all scoring with 18 points and went 4-of-9 from behind the arc.
Bowie State had a great first period highlighted by the Bulldogs staggering defense that held the Rams to just three points before ending the quarter up 18-3. While the defense took the center stage in the second period, the Bulldogs saw some timely offense scoring 15 points while holding the Rams to just 10 points. BSU would later take 33-13 lead at the break.
The third quarter belonged to the Rams who outscored the Bulldogs 19-5 during the quarter. The Rams kept chipping away at the lead until Brandi Segars layup cut the deficit to 37-27 with 2:05 left. Daniels deep ball with three seconds remaining in the quarter made it 38-32 going into the fourth stanza.
Although Winston-Salem continued their run in the fourth quarter, BSU maintained a lead throughout. It was a tale of two halves as the Rams controlled not just the last period but the entire second half outscoring Bowie State 35-21. The Rams would get as close as 47-46 when Jahlia Williams went 1-2 at the free throw line at 1:03, before
Talanya Hutton responded with a jumper to derail any chance of Winston-Salem coming back before ultimately closing out the contest with the win.
The team will return to the road for their next action, as they will head to Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday (1/9) to face the Golden Bulls. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
