WILMINGTON, Del. –The Bowie State men's basketball team fell 88-78 to Wilmington (DE) Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The loss dips the Bulldogs to 0-4 on the young season while the Wildcats earn their first win on the season at 1-3 on the season.
In the opening half, the game featured eight ties including a 20-all frame at the 12:09 mark after a 3-pointer from sophomore Joshua Cornish (Baltimore, MD) but momemtum shifted when the Wildcats responded on a 3-pointer of their own that led WU to a roaring 50-32 stand at halftime. The Bulldogs hit 13-of-28 field goals and four 3-pointers while Wilmington (DE) caught fire, shooting 66.7-percent from the field (20-30), connecting seven of -13 3-pointers (54-percent).
Bowie State showed a strong second half, using a 13-7 scoring margin to pull within 12 points early on and although the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats, 46-38, WU ballooned to its largest lead of the game at 22 points before BSU whittled the deficit down to 10 in the final moments.
Sophomore David McCollough (Bowie, MD) led BSU in scoring with 19 points and seven rebounds while graduate senior Tyler Jones (Pleasantville, NJ) added 17 points – going 7-for-7 in field goals and eight rebounds. Cornish added 15 points and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
The Bulldogs will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 23 at the Harlem Renaissance Classic Nat Holman Fieldhouse on the campus of City College of New York.
