Myers Post Double-Double but Bulldogs Fall to Lincoln (PA)

BOWIE, Md. – Redshirt feshman Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) recorded her second career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds but the Bowie State women's basketball fell to the visiting Lions of Lincoln (PA) Saturday afternoon in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) division tilt inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The loss dips the Bulldogs record to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in league action while LUPA improve to 11-4 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

After trailing 16-6 in the first quarter, the Bulldogs outscored the Lions in the second on 36-percent shooting, including 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. Bowie State cut the Lions double digit lead to seven when sophomore Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) drained a 3-pointer with 7:01 left in the first half. From there, the Bulldogs scored eight-straight points to pull within two but Lincoln (PA) snapped the run with a 3-pointer of their own before hitting 1-of-2 free throws in the last 30 seconds to take a 24-20 lead at halftime over Bowie State.

The Bulldogs fell behind 42-27 in the third quarter as Lincoln (PA) held a 17-12 scoring frame. Bowie State pulled within 15 of the Lions when Myers hit a jumper with 6:48 left but that would be the closest the Bulldogs would get for the remainder of the contest as LUPA put together an 8-3 spread to extend its lead to 22 in the final three minutes.

Bowie State shot just 28-percent from the field (15-54) for the game while LUPA hit 20-of-59 shots for 40-percent. The Lions held advantages in second chances (20-6) and points in the paint (18-12).

The Bulldogs will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 19 against Virginia Union for a division matchup. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena.
