Bowie State and Virginia Union to Meet in Men’s Basketball Action Wednesday

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State men's basketball team return to A.C. Jordan Arena Wednesday, Jan. 19 as the Bulldogs will meet Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe and regionally-ranked Virginia Union in a division contest at 7:30 p.m.

About the Bulldogs
Coming off an 82-76 overtime victory against Lincoln (PA) Saturday, the Bulldogs fought back from a 10-point deficit in the second half to force the game into an extra five minutes after a 13-3 run led by senior Dexter Turner (Washington, DC) who led the way with seven points in the scoring margin. In the overtime period, BSU scored the first four points and never looked back – snapping the Lions seven-game win-streak and 4-0 conference start.

Three Bulldogs charted double figures in scoring led by graduate senior Tyler Jones (Pleasantville, NJ) with 20 points.

Scouting #7 Virginia Union
The No. 7 Virginia Union Panthers rolled to their 12th victory of the season after pouncing on Saint Augustine's 87-56 Monday night. The win gave VUU its fifth-straight conference win, extending their win-streak four-straight. VUU took a commanding 45-26 lead at halftime over the Falcons and never looked back. Four players finished in double figure scoring led by Tahj Harding with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting in field goals.

The Panthers rank third in the CIAA for scoring offense (74.7), team 3-point field percentage (34.4), second in the league for team rebounds (39.3) while holding a conference best in team field goal percentage (48.6), opponent field goal percentage (38.2), opponent 3-point field goal percentage (28.3) and defensive rebounds (26.7).

Robert Osborne is the team's leading scorer at 12.2 points per game while the leading rebounder is Raemaad Wright with 8.1 rebounds.

The Series
BSU and VUU are meeting for the 26th time on Wednesday since 2008. Of the last 10 matchups, the Panthers have claimed seven including the last two meetings during the 2019-20 season where the Bulldogs fell 71-82 and 70-80.
