RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) turned in a 24-point performance on 10-of-11 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds to lead the Bowie State men's basketball team to a 58-48 road win at Saint Augustine's Sunday afternoon from Emery Gymnasium in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action.
The victory marked the fifth-consecutive win for the Bulldogs over the Falcons as BSU improve to 6-12 overall and 4-3 in CIAA action.
Sophomore Khalil Williams (Annapolis, MD) joined McCullough in double digit scoring with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds – he went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Bowie State took a 27-18 lead at halftime on 11-of-27 shooting from the field and 80-percent shooting from the free throw line as 10 of their 27 points came from inside. Meanwhile the Falcons, didn't shoot bad from the field – connecting 7-of-17 shots for 41-percent and was 3-for-3 from the 3-point but SAU also committed 18 turnovers.
Defensively, the Bulldogs capitalized on the Falcons 26 total turnovers for 21 points for the contest. In the second half, BSU maintained a lead of at least 10 points midway until SAU went on a 6-1 run but that wouldn't hold up for long as the Bulldogs gradually built its lead back up to double digits in the last four minutes in route to the win.
Bowie State will return to action Thursday, Jan. 27 against Virginia State for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff and division matchup in A.C. Jordan Arena.
