Bulldogs Pull Out Back-And-Forth Nail Biter at St. Augustine’s, 49-48

RALEIGH, N.C. – After leading by 11 points during the fourth quarter, the Bowie State women's basketball team was able to hold off the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's in the final seconds to pull out a 49-48 victory, Sunday evening at Emery Gymnasium.

Although the Bulldogs trailed 23-18 at halftime, BSU went on an 18-6 run in the third quarter that led to a 36-29 advantage heading into the fourth. In the final period, Bowie State held a 9-5 scoring spread that extended the Bulldogs lead to 11 before SAU was able to cut the lead to single digits in the last seconds.

The Bulldogs move to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) despite being outscored 19-13 in the fourth quarter, BSU never trailed in the quarter. Bowie State, who successfully bounced back from a Saturday loss at Shaw, have now won seven-straight against the Lady Falcons.

SAU, which falls to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in league play, saw an opportunity for a game-winning shot go astray during the waning seconds as the final good jumper for the Lady Falcons came at the buzzer.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) and freshman Saniha Jackson (Ellicott City, MD) who both scored 13 points apiece. Freshman Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) recorded her third double-double on the season with 10 points and a game -high 14 rebounds which also set a new career-high. Additionally, Jackson collected six rebounds in the winning effort for BSU.

Bowie State will return to action Thursday, Jan. 27 against Virginia State for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off and division matchup in A.C. Jordan Arena.
