Bowie State to Host Virginia State in Men’s Basketball Action Thursday

BOWIE, Md. –The Bowie States men's basketball team returns home to A.C. Jordan Arena on Thursday, Jan. 27 for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tilt with Virginia State University at 7:30 p.m.

About the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are coming off a 58-48 road win at Saint Augustine's on Sunday. Sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) led the Bulldogs to victory after turning in a 24-point performance to go along with six rebounds while sophomore Khalil Williams (Annapolis, MD) added 12 points and a team-high eight boards. Bowie State held a nine-point lead at halftime and used the Falcons 26 turnovers to gain 21 points which aided the Bulldogs in maintaining a 10-point lead in the second half.
 
BSU averages 71.3 points and ranks first in the CIAA for team free throw percentage (75.2). Defensively, the Bulldogs have allowed 76.8 points per game.
 
Scouting Virginia State
Virginia State is coming off a close victory 68-67 against Johnson C. Smith Monday night ending a two-game losing streak. Three players scored in double figures led by Terrance Hunter-Whitfield with16 points.
 
The Trojans are currently third in the CIAA for scoring offense (74.1), but have allowed their opponents to put up 77.0 points. Francis Fitzgerald at 18.2 points per game while Hunter-Whitefield is the team's leader in rebounds (6.6).
 
The Series
BSU and VSU are meeting for the 26th since 2008. In the past five matchups the Bulldogs have claimed one victory in a match that went into double overtime for an 86-81 win in 2020. The Trojans took the last matchup against the Bulldogs, 89-66 also in 2020 but on the road in Petersburg, Va.
