BOWIE, Md. Despite nine ties and 12 lead changes, the Bowie State women's basketball team gutted out a 62-61 victory against Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena. This victory extends the Bulldogs win streak to three-straight.

Bowie State improves to 8-8 overall, and 6-3 in the CIAA, while the Lady Vikings dip to 13-5 overall, and 5-4 in the conference. In division standings, the Bulldogs currently sit in third with a 3-2 mark while ECSU is fourth.

Freshman Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16-points aided by junior Drew Calhoun (New Carrollton, MD) who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

In the first quarter, both teams were evenly matched as the Bulldogs shot 50-percent from the field on 7--of-14 shooting while the Lady Vikings connected 8-of-12 free throws at 67-percent. At the end of the quarter, the score was tied at 17-all.

ECSU got off to a hot start in the second, shooting 66-percent from the field while outscoring BSU 16-11 after using a 12-9 run with 2:14 left. The Bulldogs pulled within three with a free throw from Harris but the Lady Vikings nailed two free throws of their own to secure the 33-28 lead at halftime.

Bowie State trailed 33-30 at the beginning of the third while the Lady Vikings took their largest lead at nine points on a free throw from Sireann Pitts with 4:49 left in the stanza. However, the Bulldogs went on an 8-3 run to close the gap to four at the end of the quarter, 48-44.

The Bulldogs groomed a 11-6 spread to tie the game at 55-all at the 3:40 mark. The lead changed three times before Harris sunk two freebies that provide BSU with a 5-3 scoring advantage and one-point victory.
