WEST LIBERTY, WV– The Bowie State men's basketball team suffered a 108-85 setback to No. 8-ranked West Liberty Monday afternoon at the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex to conclude their non-conference slate for the 2021-22 season.
The loss dips Bowie State's overall record to 3-9 on the year while WLU improves to 11-1 overall.
Although the Bulldogs tied with the nationally-ranked Hilltoppers in the second half with both teams scoring 47 points each, it was the first half that featured 21 turnovers for BSU as the Bulldogs trailed 61-38 at halftime and was never able to overcome the large first half deficit.

Bowie State had four players finish in double-figure scoring led by sophomore
David McCullough (Bowie, MD) who finished with 16 points, connecting 8-of-10 free throws. Sophomore
Anthony Carpenter (Reisterstown, MD) added 12 points and eight rebounds (five defensively), while sophomore
Ayan Teel (Bowie, MD) and senior
Justin Route (Washington, D.C.) contributed 11 and 10 points off the bench, respectively.

Through the boxscore, WLU held advantages in second chances 25-12, points off of turnovers (28-17) and points in the paint (50-26) but the Bulldogs did get a productive effort from their bench, charting a 42-32 ratio in bench points.

Bowie State will resume conference play and remain on the road with a trip down south beginning on Thursday, Jan. 6 at Saint Augustine's in Raleigh, N.C. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
